Hailing from Cajun country in South Louisiana, Mrs. Raine Anselmo is beginning her 17th year as Saint Rose Academy's first grade teacher. She graduated from Saint Thomas More High School in Lafayette, LA, then followed her father's dream and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She was a Dean's List graduate in 1992, earning a B.S. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She taught Kindergarten in the Catholic Diocese in Birmingham for 3 years following graduation before staying home 11 years to raise her children. Mrs. Anselmo earned her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UAB in 2009, where she was an honor graduate and chosen "most outstanding graduate student" by the School of Education faculty. She is the proud parent of 4 terrific children: Aryn, Gannon, and Griffin are Saint Rose, John Carroll, and University of Alabama graduates who are living and working locally; and Gage, who is a Saint Rose and John Carroll graduate and currently attending UAB.
Mrs. Anselmo loves teaching first grade! The class motto in 1st grade is "work hard, play hard" because that is exactly what they do. Children are active learners who enjoy learning important academic lessons while becoming confident and secure in their autonomy as young Christians. Mrs. Anselmo creates a safe environment where children can try new things and aren't afraid to make mistakes. She enjoys educating the whole child and feels called to teach in a Catholic school setting. In her down time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, decorating, traveling, and hanging out with her children, her husband, George, and her Maltese, Mabel.
