Leila Haikala grew up in Birmingham and attended John Carroll (Go Cavs!), where she first experienced the gift of Catholic schools. She followed the “A.M.D.G.” she learned to write at the top of her paper (standing for ad majorem Dei gloriam, a Latin phrase meaning “for the greater glory of God”) to Georgetown University, graduating in 2018 with a B.A. in English. This year, she brings her love for reading, language, and the Faith to Saint Rose as 7th & 8th Grade Literature and Library teacher. She is delighted and grateful to begin working alongside the Dominican Sisters and the faculty and staff of Saint Rose in forming children to pursue the good, the true, and the beautiful.
“Outside of school,” Leila likes reading (still!), spending time with her parents and family in Birmingham, enjoying music and the outdoors, learning about the saints, and cheering on the New Orleans Saints (Who Dat!). She looks forward to meeting each of her students this and learning alongside them!
