Reflection on Saint Rose Education
by Danielle Chbeir ~Class of 2019~
A Saint Rose education is not something to be taken lightly; it means so much in the years that follow. As a recent graduate of Saint Rose, one of the most reassuring parts of going to high school is that I have a strong education to carry me through. During course selection for my freshman year, I was confident that I could take honors classes and still maintain high grades because I am positive that Saint Rose has prepared me well. Because I took Algebra 1 my 8th grade year at Saint Rose, I could skip straight to Honors Geometry and not worry about having grade issues. Also, the writing techniques taught at Saint Rose have pushed me a step ahead of everyone else. As classmates visited other high schools throughout our 8th grade year, I frequently heard, “The biology class was learning what we learned in 6th grade!” or, “The geometry class was doing what we did at the beginning of this year!” Thanks to Saint Rose, I know that I have very little to worry about when it comes to my classes.
Academic excellence is not all Saint Rose taught me. Another huge part of my education was my faith. Having religion class every day, visiting the chapel, and having Mass every week had a very strong impact on the growth of my faith. Also, Saint Rose taught me high standards that many other schools might not have encouraged. I learned how to respect higher authority, how to have backbone in tough situations, and how to accept others who are different from me. They gave me another family that supported me through everything, whether they knew the problem or not. Being able to confide in my teachers was one of the things I most appreciated about Saint Rose. Because of these two main gifts and many others, I am proud and grateful to have attended Saint Rose, and I will never regret any of it.
My name is Yorgo Sarris and I attended Saint Rose for 10 years: from 4K in 2004 until 8th grade, graduating in 2014. I am currently a Senior at Samford University and have applied to eleven Law Schools in the last month! I cannot imagine my life without a Saint Rose education. The Dominican Sisters at Saint Rose take serious the school’s motto: Veritas et Caritas, or Truth and Love. Throughout my academic career at Saint Rose, the Sisters and lay teachers instilled in me the love of Our Lord and neighbor, as well as the importance of the pursuit of Truth through the Church and Her teaching. More than that, the Saint Rose education fosters a well-rounded character of humility, selflessness, magnanimity, and even wit. God’s Providence saw fit that my heart and intellect would be conformed to His through my ten years at Saint Rose. I am eternally grateful for the school, and I look forward to sending my own children (or saying Mass, if that is my vocation) there!
The family spirit that is a hallmark of Saint Rose Academy extends beyond our current students and parents to include generations of Saint Rose alumni. Our Alumni are the living legacy of Saint Rose and it is thanks to their passion and desire to give back that the school continues to thrive for future generations of students. Our dear alumni are always welcome to visit Saint Rose, to volunteer in our many activities and events, and to contribute to the continued growth of our school.
Saint Rose Academy is constantly involved in a variety of projects, and Alumni volunteers are always welcome to help. If interested, please contact Christine Salberg by e-mail for additional information.
